What is the adoption process like? Our adoption process typically involves completing our application, scheduling a time for a phone call for us to understand your wants and needs as well as an oportunity to ask questiona about our process, and the next steps moving forward to bring a Irish Terrier into your home. We prioritize finding loving and suitable homes for our Irish Terriers rather than placing a puppy for a quick sale.

Are your Irish Terriers registered? Yes, all our Irish Terriers are AKC registered. Each of our litters are registered with the AKC and puppies go home with AKC registration paperwork. We provide documentation and pedigrees for our dogs to each buyer.

We follow recommended veterinary protocols to ensure the well-being of our dogs. Our adult dogs have undergone Embark DNA testing, which screens for 250+ genetic health concerns, of which all of our adults have screened negative for. Each litter of puppies is seen by our veterinarian team 3 days after birth at which time they are given a health check, have their tails docked and dewclaws removed.

Can I visit Detmore Kennels to meet the Irish Terriers in person? While we would love to welcome all potential adopters to visit our facility, we do not allow visitors to our facility for a variety of health, safety and security reasons. For those not local to us, we try to maintain an active social media presence so you can see what is happening at Detmore Kennels.

That being said, while we do our very best to ensure that every puppy goes home happy and healthy, we can not predict the outcome of each puppy and their future. We do everything possible in our control to make sure that our pups are healthy.

What kind of support do you offer to adopters? We provide ongoing support to adopters, including guidance on care, training, and any questions that may arise after adoption. Our goal is to ensure a successful and happy relationship between you and your Irish Terrier.

Do you ship Irish Terriers to other locations? We handle shipping arrangements on a case-by-case basis. We do not use commercial transportation services to ship puppies, nor will we consider shipping a puppy as "cargo" via a commercial airline. Our puppies will be transported by one of our staff members via ground or if we transport a puppy via air, they need to travel between 8-14 weeks of age so they can fly in the cabin. We are happy to discuss shipping or transportation with those interested. We beleive our transportation rates are reasonable and discuss those on a case by case basis
